Sustainable Mobility
Mobility Plan
The Universidade Católica Portuguesa actively promotes sustainable mobility practices, encouraging the entire academic community to adopt more eco-friendly transportation alternatives. These initiatives aim to reduce the environmental impact associated with motorized vehicles and foster a more accessible, responsible, healthy, and inclusive university environment.
The plan encourages walking, cycling, and the use of public transport, helping to reduce the number of private cars circulating daily on campus. By investing in soft and sustainable mobility, Católica reinforces its commitment to urban quality of life, social inclusion, and environmental protection.
Initiatives and Measures in Practice
Smart Charging – Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
In partnership with Mota-Engil Renewing, charging stations powered by low-carbon energy have been installed. These stations are available to all Católica users, with competitive rates within the national context and the MOBI.E network.
Locations:
Lisbon: campus Palma de Cima
- 4 charging stations (22 kW/hour) located in the South Outdoor Parking, after the access gates.
Porto: campus Foz
- 2 charging stations of 22kw/hour in the Teachers' Park.
- 2 charging stations of 22kw/hour on Floor -1 of the Restoration Building parking.
Braga: campus Camões
- 4 charging stations of 11kw/hour in the parking area at the entrance of the campus.
Cycle Paths and Bicycle Parking on Campus
The Palma de Cima campus is integrated into the Lisbon Cycle Path Network, enabling safe travel. As part of this mobility project, there is a Bike Station near the University entrance.
For those with their own bicycles, the University provides bike parking areas inside the campus, encouraging the use of this mode of transport and reducing car-based urban travel.
Bike parking location: next to Building 5, Palma de Cima campus.
Partnerships with Public Transport Operators
Católica strengthens partnerships with public transport operators, promoting improvements in schedules and access to campuses. These actions aim to facilitate the use of collective transport and reduce reliance on individual vehicles.
Kiss & Ride | Passenger Drop-off and Pick-up
The “Kiss & Ride – Passenger Drop-off and Pick-up”developed in partnership with the Lisbon City Council, aims to improve mobility near the university campus by promoting sustainable practices. By creating a dedicated area for quick passenger drop-off and pick-up by taxis, ride-hailing services, and private vehicles, congestion on public roads and unnecessary entry into parking lots is avoided. This measure reduces emissions, improves traffic flow, and encourages shared transport, contributing to more efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible urban mobility.
Other Internal Measures to Reduce Travel
- Encouraging train travel instead of car or plane.
- Promoting online meetings to reduce physical travel.
- Implementing home office regimes to decrease commuting.
