Carbon Footprint
Commitment to Reducing CO₂ Emissions
The University is firmly committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality. Our commitment goes beyond reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, it also includes implementing practices that ensure a healthier and more sustainable environment for all. We aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
Our pathway to carbon neutrality in 2040 is built on three fundamental principles:
- Reduce – prioritising the reduction of emissions through energy efficiency, sustainable campus management, and the promotion of responsible behaviours across the academic community
- Transform – accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources and low-carbon solutions across all activities
- Compensate – addressing residual emissions through credible and verifiable carbon offsetting and removal mechanisms
Assessment and Monitoring of Carbon Footprint
To monitor the impact and progress regarding the carbon footprint, the university conducts an annual assessment of CO₂ emissions. The report is prepared in accordance with internationally recognized standards, such as the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, ensuring transparency and accuracy in accounting for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
Based on regular measurements of our emissions, we are implementing effective measures to achieve carbon neutrality, actively contributing to SDG 13 and a more sustainable world.
Greenhouse gas emissions:
tCO2 eq Scope 1, 2 and 3
Reference year 2025
- Scope 1 – direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the institution
- Scope 2 – indirect emissions from purchased and consumed energy
- Scope 3 – all other indirect emissions across the value chain
tCO2 eq Scope 1
Reference year 2025
- Direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the institution
tCO2 eq Scope 2
Reference year 2025
- Indirect emissions from purchased and consumed energy
tCO2 eq Scope 3 (parcial)
