Timeline

After arrival in Portugal, the residence permit application must be initiated within the applicable legal time limit.

The process proceeds as follows:

  1. The applicant schedules an appointment with the Global Engagement Office.
  2. At the appointment, the documentation required for the residence permit application must be presented.
  3. The Global Engagement Office checks the validity and compliance of the documentation.
  4. Once validated, the documents are submitted electronically to AIMA.
  5. AIMA analyses the the documents.

    5.1. If additional documents or information are required, AIMA will request the missing items through the Global Engagement Office.

    5.2. If the documentation is complete, the applicant will be notified to attend a meeting in person at an AIMA Service Centre, where the original documents must be presented again.
