Promoting and valuing collaboration, deepening the link with the SDGs
The Universidade Católica Portuguesa assumes that its strategic objective is to take the challenge of inter- and transdisciplinarity even further; and to place the scientific research produced within it more decisively at the service of meeting the SDGs/SLOs. On the one hand, the complexity of reality requires this collaborative work between different disciplines and teams. On the other hand, the magnitude of the challenges of more sustainable integral development requires scientific communities to focus their efforts on the horizon drawn by the SDGs/SLOs. In this way, UCP's scientific research will have a greater and more lasting impact.
SDG-orientated research
Through its 15 research units, and working collaboratively with national and international partners from the academic, business and cultural sectors, continuing the work of centres and laboratories of excellence, UCP aims to offer robust answers to the central questions of the present, accompanying society in its urgent challenges.
UCP assumes the responsibilities of research that is aware of its ethical and societal implications, deepening the link with the SDGs.
Through the UCP Science Portal it is possible to consult all the scientific production that impacts the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Knowledge Transfer
As a research-orientated university, one of UCP's main objectives is to increase the added value of the knowledge developed in its research units by transferring it to commercial, industrial and cultural ventures.
These transfer processes are achieved through interfaces - the Knowledge Transfer and Consulting Services - which act as links between the university and non-academic institutions. By fostering active interaction between universities and companies, UCP aims to develop sustainable collaborative dynamics, contributing to regional and national development.
In the scientific areas, UCP seeks to:
- provide scientific consultancy services;
- offer research-based solutions to commercial and non-commercial organisations;
- establish cooperation projects with organisations in the commercial, industrial, artistic and cultural sectors;
- help in the creation of spin-off companies;
- manage intellectual property;
- collaborate with national and international organisations and networks.
