Sustainability Subcommittee

The Sustainability Subcommittee of Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) plays a vital role in promoting quality and sustainability within the institution. Its efforts directly contribute to the continuous improvement of institutional processes, ensuring effective alignment with the University’s mission and strategy.

The subcommittee operates cross-functionally, engaging various units, departments, and stakeholders in the implementation of sustainable practices. As an integral part of the University's Quality Management System, it strengthens continuous improvement initiatives and embeds sustainability principles across all areas of UCP's operations.

The primary objective of the Sustainability Subcommittee is to establish sustainability as a core pillar of institutional management, driving continuous improvement and supporting UCP’s environmental and social commitments. Its key responsibilities include:

  • Promoting Institutional Sustainability – Embedding sustainable practices into institutional processes and raising awareness within the academic community.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation – Tracking sustainability indicators and preparing reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Defining Strategic Guidelines – Developing policy proposals to minimize UCP’s environmental footprint.
  • Developing and Implementing Sustainable Actions – Enhancing energy efficiency, optimizing waste management, and encouraging responsible resource consumption.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Collaborating with internal departments and external partners to foster and promote best practices.

Composition of the Sustainability Subcommittee:

  • A member of the Rector’s Team;
  • At least two Quality Assurance Representatives;
  • Members of the Quality (Assurance) Team;
  • Sustainability Process Managers;
  • Members of the Quality Assurance Team.

External participants may be invited to join the committee, including:

  • Representatives from relevant university structures related to sustainability;
  • Other invited members, including students and external participants outside UCP.
