UCP Editora takes part in 4th edition of BOOK 2.0 under the theme “Back to Basics. Back to Books”
UCP Editora took part in the 4th edition of BOOK 2.0, an initiative organised by the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers (APEL), held at the Centro Cultural de Belém on 15 and 16 September. Over the two days, the event brought together hundreds of publishers, booksellers, readers, creators and thinkers, with a programme featuring debates, conferences and workshops exploring the challenges and opportunities facing the world of books.
As a meeting point for the different communities that make up the world of books, the event also featured a talk by José Tolentino Mendonça, centred on three fundamental principles for the present and the future: listening, imagination and care.
The current Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education reflected on the times we live in, challenging participants to think critically about a reality marked by rapid change. With the sensitivity and insight that characterise his work, he recalled that we live in a “world that moves faster than its own values”, highlighting the importance of creating spaces for dialogue, creativity and attentiveness to others.
His words invited participants to look to the future without losing sight of what makes human beings truly human, reaffirming the essential role of books, culture and education in building a more conscious and caring society.
Taking part in BOOK 2.0 also gave UCP Editora an opportunity to reflect on current challenges and new ways of promoting books and knowledge, as well as to define strategies suited to the times we live in.
