Two students from Universidade Católica are distinguished by the Banco de Portugal
Inês Gouveia and Bruno Filipe Gonçalves Abreu, students at the Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics (CATÓLICA LISBON) and the Católica Porto Business School (CPBS), received the Professor Jacinto Nunes Award 2023, awarded by the Banco de Portugal to the best undergraduate students in Economics in 2022.23.
For this year's winner from CATÓLICA-LISBON, Inês Gouveia, "this distinction is a recognition of the effort and commitment throughout the undergraduate degree." In this sense, the student emphasises the "fundamental" support of the school, without which "I would not have achieved these results", she comments.
Grateful and happy with the award, which she describes as "a pleasant surprise", Inês Gouveia also emphasises: "there should be this kind of recognition in various areas. They can become goals of excellence to motivate various students, and they're a good way of demonstrating that effort pays off."
Bruno Filipe Gonçalves Abreu, who was also awarded this distinction, but through CPBS, says: "it was an honour to be able to see all the study and effort of the last three years recognised through this award."
Bruno Abreu, who is already studying for a Master's in Finance at Católica Porto Business School, added: "I hope that this initiative continues for many years and succeeds in its aim of valuing and encouraging the study of economics."
The award ceremony took place on 9 January at the Banco de Portugal branch in Porto and was presided over by the Governor, Mário Centeno. Also present at the event was João Pinto, dean of CPBS, for whom "this award is not only recognition of three years of effort and dedication, but it is also an incentive for our students to continue striving for excellence in the study of economic sciences."
Awarded annually, the Professor Jacinto Nunes Award honours, for each of the selected educational institutions, the student who, in the previous academic year, obtained the best final average in the Bachelor's Degree in Economics.
Created in 1987 as the "Banco de Portugal Award", the prize for the best undergraduate economics students was renamed in 2016 in honour of Professor Manuel Jacinto Nunes, one of the most illustrious economists of the second half of the 20th century in Portugal. As well as being Deputy Governor and Governor of the Bank of Portugal, Manuel Jacinto Nunes was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the IV Constitutional Government.
