Start-ups linked to the Universidade Católica Portuguesa honoured in Macau

Dermamatica and Glooma, start-ups participating in the Católica University's Forward! programme, were awarded prizes at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Technology Companies in Brazil and Portugal 2025, in Macau.

Dermamatica, which developed a solution based on artificial intelligence for 3D skin cancer screening, promoting early detection of the disease, won the Award for Greatest Development Potential in the Greater Bay Area.

Glooma, a health technology start-up, won the Scientific and Technological Value Transfer Award for the development of SenseGlove, a sensory glove connected to a mobile application that facilitates breast self-examination at home and anticipates the detection of breast cancer.

Promoted by the Macao Economic and Technological Development Bureau, the initiative aims to strengthen scientific and technological exchange and co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and included 17 finalists from Brazil and Portugal, in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Biomedicine and medical devices and the Internet of Things.

These distinctions underline the role of the annual Forward! pre-acceleration programme launched by the Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics, bringing universities and incubators into contact and speeding up the process of start-ups entering the market. Dermamatica was a Forward! finalist in 2025 and Glooma took part in 2021.
