Green public policies at the centre of new interdisciplinary research project
Green public policies is the theme of the research project of the Centre for Studies in Management and Economics (CEGE) of the Católica Porto Business School, which was selected in the 2nd edition of the competition for interdisciplinary research projects of the Universidade Católica.
"Considering the real challenges and the UN 2030 goals, the importance of green public policies becomes evident and cooperation between the public and private sectors is necessary for the realisation of these policies," explains Aydin Taymourifar, researcher at CEGE. Since this cooperation is carried out on the basis of a contract mechanism, this project proposes to evaluate the cooperation from an interdisciplinary point of view: both from the Law and the Systems Engineering side. In the case of the latter, factors such as energy and pollutants will be considered.
Entitled "Designing Green Contract Mechanisms between Government and Private Sector to Combat Environmental Challenges Based on the System-of-Systems Approach", the project also counts on the participation of the Centre for Legal Studies and Research (CEID) of the Faculty of Law - Porto School.
In the short term, work will be carried out on contractual mechanisms that are necessary for the design of green public policies. This work will lead to the publication of papers and oral presentations. It is intended that this research will produce knowledge that will be useful to governments and institutions and also to graduate students who may want to develop the topic in dissertations.
According to Aydin Taymourifar, the funding obtained through this tender will "facilitate the purchase of software and books", as well as "allow the collection of data, through the designation of some students who may be awarded scholarships that allow the development of the work." The project is led by Aydin Taymourifar, researcher at CEGE, with Raquel Carvalho, from the Faculty of Law - Porto School, and Ana Lourenço, from the Católica Porto Business School.
The competition, promoted by the Porto Regional Centre, aims to provide funding for interdisciplinary research projects at the Catholic University in Porto, which, in this context, is defined as any project whose goal could not be achieved without the involvement of different areas of knowledge. The 2nd edition distinguished, in addition to CEGE's project, the B4Brain, a project led by the Human Neurobehavioral Laboratory which aims to develop a new bioproduct with neuroprotective potential.
