Online | UCP | Centro Regional do Porto

Faculty of Law - Porto School, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in partnership with ICFML (Instituto de Certificação e Formação de Mediadores Lusófonos), will host on 22 October at 18:00 (Lisbon time) the workshop “Mediation and Arbitration: the new indispensable language for advocacy”.

The event will feature Professor Jair Gevaerd, Ph.D, FCIArb, an international commercial arbitrator and mediator, and Professor of ADR at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Caruso School of Law, Pepperdine University, and will be moderated by André Almeida Martins, Assistant Professor at Porto Faculty of Law, Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

This event will provide a structured overview of mediation and arbitration, highlighting their distinct features and explaining why they play an increasingly central role in contemporary legal practice. Beyond their application in business and employment, as well as family and community matters, the workshop will emphasise the principle of adequacy: the ability to select the dispute resolution mechanism most appropriate to each specific case. Such an approach demonstrates how informed choices can lead to faster, more effective outcomes that respond directly to the real interests of the parties involved.

Participation is free of charge, subject to prior registration.
