"The Church as communion is a project, a continuous call to live God's gifts in the experience of human and Christian brotherhood. Communion will be an empty word if it is not accompanied by visible forms through which it manifests itself, articulates itself and develops, if it is not translated into mediations which are indispensable for the progressive transformation of mentalities and the assumption of effective commitments. Ecclesial communion cannot be realized and developed without broad communication and participation in the forms of living the faith, without living structures of co-responsibility, without the recognition and promotion of the synodal dimension" [Borges de Pinho, J. E., “Critérios de comunhão e construção da comunidade”, Didaskalia 33 (2003) 217].
