The next session of the Laudato si' Year at Universidade Católica Portuguesa is dedicated to Bioethics as a place of interdisciplinarity. This session will be led by Professor Bruno Nobre, Coordinator of the Centre for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies, who will explore the theme "Bioethics and integral ecology"; by Dr. Pablo Hernández-Marrero, Researcher at the Research Centre in Management and Economics and at the Instituto de Bioética, who will reflect on the theme "Global Bioethics: problems, answers, human rights and ethical discourse"; and by Dr. Sandra Martins Pereira, Dean of the Instituto de Bioética and Main Researcher FCT of the Research Centre in Management and Economics, who will focus on the theme "ethics of care in the relationship with the sick and/or vulnerable person".
The Laudato si' encyclical is an exhortation calling for a global bioethical approach. This session will build bridges between different pathways and areas of knowledge in order to develop a truly interdisciplinary perspective on the ethical issues applied to human health and life, at individual, population and global levels. In the words of the Pope, "We need to reinvigorate the awareness that we are one human family. There are no borders or political or social barriers that allow us to isolate ourselves, and therefore there is no room for the globalisation of indifference either". (Laudato si', 52).
Registration is free and is available through this link.
