Law School students win university debating competition
Mateus Costa and Marta Cansado, students from the Porto School and the Lisbon School of Law of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, won the 5th edition of the Open da Católica, a debating tournament that brings together students from the most diverse Debating Societies from all over the country. Organized by the Sociedade de Debates da Católica no Porto (SdDCP), this edition of the tournament had more than 70 participants.
Mateus Costa, a 3rd year law student at the Porto School, says that “winning the Grand Final of the Católica 2024 Open, together with Marta Cansado, was the culmination of a long journey of learning and training in SdDCP's weekly debates and in national and regional debate tournaments.” “I hope that our achievement will inspire the students at the Universidade Católica,” she concludes.
In addition to their victory, both winners were also placed in the Top 10 best speakers of the competition, with Marta Cansado in 5th place and Mateus Costa in 8th place.
This achievement makes the University proud, reinforcing its commitment to excellence and the comprehensive training of its students. Congratulations!
