“We want to build your success”: welcoming new Nursing students
The new students of the Degree in Nursing started this new school year on the right foot. Enthusiasm, some anxiety and a lot of desire to embark on this challenge: this is how the first days at the university of the new students of the School of Nursing of the Institute of Health Sciences (Porto) have been lived.
“I am very excited for this new year” and “I want to experience everything that Católica has to give me” were some of the shares that were heard throughout the event. Moved and excited by the new academic year that is now starting, students, throughout the welcoming week, have had the opportunity to challenge themselves and learn more about the degree, through inspiring testimonies from students and teachers.
“Step by step we want to build your success”: the commitment and responsibility in this mission was affirmed by Paulo Alves, director of the ICS (Porto), during the welcome session, which took place on September 8 at the Comendador Armenian Miranda Auditorium.
The director of the School highlighted the commitment that the faculty assumes in the “training of nurses of the future”, highlighting important dimensions such as “new technologies”, “the robustness of academic training”, “the foundation in human and civic training” and “the academic community.”
The meeting also had the participation of the Student Association and the teacher and coordinator of the degree, Armando Almeida, who said that “entering the university is the beginning of a dream. We are here to help you build your dream.”
After this session was over, the students were invited to meet at the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium to participate in a moment of meeting between all the students of the different degrees at Católica, where scholarships and merit awards were also awarded. This general welcome session included the intervention of Isabel Braga da Cruz, Pro-Rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, who began by congratulating all the new students for entering higher education and for choosing the UCP: “We want you to take from this university experience the best advantage of the formation and experience that the Católica offers you.” The Pro-Rectoe also added that at Católica all students “have the opportunity to walk a path that will lead them to make a difference, not only as professionals, but also and essentially as people.”
This welcome session took place within the scope of an extended welcoming program that the School of Nursing has been promoting among its students since the 6th of September and will last until the 19th of the same month. “Nursing in a globalized world”, “Talking to nurses”, “Feeling UCP” and “Course of Integration to the UCP” are some of the sessions that make up the reception period and that aim to be an important tool in the start of this new phase of life which now begins.
