University of São José Campus Inauguration in Macau

The University of São José (USJ) was founded by the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in 1996 in conjunction with the Diocese of Macau and sharing facilities with the Diocesan College of St. Joseph 6 (CDSJ6), on a campus hosting about 1,750 students.

Ten years after the laying of the first stone and almost two years after the typhoon that caused substantial damages, the Green Island university campus was today officially inaugurated in Macau. "Finally, here's the new campus: an architectural testimony and a tribute to education rooted in the Green Island and, hopefully, in the heart of Macau.", the USJ Rector stressed during the inaugural speech.

This inaugural session also counted on the presence of the UCP Rector, Prof. Isabel Capeloa Gil, and the Católica Porto School of Law Director, Prof. Manuel Fontaine. Alexis Tam, Macau Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, pointed to the close collaboration between the USJ and the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in praising the UCP role in the education of qualified staff and thereby contributing to strengthening the Macau strategy of serving as a platform of cooperation between China and Portuguese speaking countries.
