Universidade Católica Portuguesa begins celebrations of its 55th anniversary

Universidade Católica Portuguesa launched the celebrations of its 55th anniversary with a pilgrimage to Fátima. The academic community joined the Chancellor of the University, the Cardinal-Patriarch of Lisbon, Manuel Clemente, and the President, Isabel Capeloa Gil, to pray the rosary in the Chapel of the Apparitions and participate in the mass celebrated in the Santíssima Trindade Basilica.

After lunch for faculty, staff and students, which took place in the Paulo VI Auditorium, a concert with musicians from the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra was held at the Rosário Basilica.

Referring to the 55th anniversary celebrations, UCP's President  mentioned at the Convocation and National Graduation Ceremony that "55 years past, the university is represented by more than 60,000 alumni and by its contribution to the growth of Portuguese society."

"We are whole in the values that we profile and in the mission that we pursue", underlined Isabel Capeloa Gil at the event held at the Cardeal Medeiros Auditorium, in Lisbon. On this occasion, the commemorative logo for the 55th anniversary of Universidade Católica Portuguesa was also presented.

Universidade Católica Portuguesa was founded on the 13th of October 1967 by the Decree Lusitanorum Nobilissima Gens of the Roman Congregation for Catholic Education. In 1971 it obtained official recognition from the Portuguese State, which considered the UCP to be a "collective person of public utility", by Decree-Law no. 307/71. In the same year, the Decree Humanam Eruditionem canonically established Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
