Refugee students visit the Parliament
A group of Portuguese and refugee students of various nationalities, German, Macanese, Afghan, Russian, Ukrainian and Pakistani, from the Universidade Católica visited the Portuguese Parliament on 24 May.
The students from the Faculty of Human Sciences and the Católica Medical School were welcomed and guided by MP Hugo Carneiro, professor at Católica, and met MP Romualda Fernandes.
During the visit, which coincided with the visit of the President of Algeria, the group had the opportunity to visit the common spaces, and also to enter the TAP Parliamentary Inquiry Commission Room, and watch the debate in the galleries.
An activity that Inês Espada Vieira, Coordinator of the Support Initiative for Refugee Students and Researchers and responsible for promoting this day, describes as "a moment of celebration, for the privilege of getting to know the "House of Democracy" from the inside, of understanding how it works and how it is open to all citizens."
In addition to the opportunity to explore the democratic body, Inês Espada Vieira highlights how the event contributed to "sedimenting the bonds of fraternity that unite us, by sharing such a special day.
