President of the Portuguese Catholic University attends USJ graduation ceremony in Macau
On 6 July, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) awarded degrees to 381 students over three separate sessions at the 2024 Graduation Ceremony. The event took place at the at the Auditório Centenário de Fátima in USJ Ilha Verde Campus, in Macau.
The first session, dedicated to awarding doctoral and master's degrees, was chaired by the representative of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Kong Chi Meng, Director of the Department of Education and Youth Development (DSEDJ) and was attended by Isabel Capeloa Gil, President of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP), among other distinguished guests.
Isabel Capeloa Gil attended the ceremony as a representative of UCP, reinforcing the ties of academic and cultural cooperation between the two institutions. The event also highlighted USJ's diversity and commitment to academic excellence, as well as its leading role in promoting academic exchanges.
USJ Rector Stephen Morgan congratulated the graduates, emphasising the importance not only of academic excellence, but also of moral responsibility and the crucial role of graduates in ethical leadership in their communities and in the world.
In addition, USJ also held the first Aggregation Exam - awarding the title of Aggregation - in Macau, in the area of Information Systems, specialising in Data Sciences, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and recognising the contributions of its teachers to scientific advancement in the region.
The exam, requested by João Alexandre Lobo Marques, Director of the Department of Business Administration and Research Coordinator of the Faculty of Business Administration at USJ, was chaired by Stephen Morgan, Dean of USJ, and conducted by a panel of judges made up of Isabel Capeloa Gil, Álvaro Mendes Barbosa, Vice-Rector of USJ, Susana Costa e Silva, Professor at UCP-Porto, Paulo César Cortez, Professor at the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil, and Adérito Fernandes Marcos, Director of the Doctoral School at USJ.
Isabel Capeloa Gil's participation in USJ's Graduation Ceremony underlines the importance of collaboration between higher education institutions and the sharing of knowledge in international contexts, reinforcing the long-lasting ties between UCP and USJ.
