Peter Hanenberg collaborates on a report on the future of academic careers in Europe

The Vice-Rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP), Peter Hanenberg, is co-author of the recently published report by the European University Association (EUA) entitled ‘Key Principles for Attractive and Sustainable Academic Careers’.

This report is an essential tool for understanding the principles that guide the construction of attractive and sustainable academic careers.

Among the central aspects, service to society stands out, recognising the unique role of universities in the production and transmission of knowledge. It also reinforces the commitment to quality and the diversity of academic citizenship as fundamental pillars of higher education.

The document also mentions examples of good practice, including the ‘T4EU Early-stage Researchers’ Academy’ of the Transform4Europe university alliance, of which Católica is a member.

The publication comes at a time when several universities around the world are facing challenges such as restrictive policies, emphasising the urgent need for reforms in academic careers to guarantee the excellence and sustainability of higher education in Europe.
