"Nurses are guardians of life" - Welcoming the new Nursing students
The new students of the Nursing Degree 2023/2024 have arrived! A lot of joy and enthusiasm at the start of the new academic year was felt over three days! "Nursing in a globalised world", "Chatting with nurses", "Feeling UCP" and "UCP Integration Course" were some of the topics covered!
The new students had the opportunity to challenge themselves and learn more about the Porto campus of the Universidade Católica, the ICS-Porto School of Nursing and the degree programme, through different activities and inspiring testimonies from students, alumni and teachers.
It's here, at the Institute of Health Sciences, that they begin to fly," said Paulo Alves, director of the ICS School of Nursing (Porto), during the welcome session, which took place on 7 September in the Comendador Arménio Miranda Auditorium. "Nurses are guardians of life" and "at ICS we train nurses who will be able to respond to the challenges of the profession", he added. What sets the Universidade Católica Portuguesa apart? "Values, ethics and commitment," he concluded.
Armando Almeida, coordinator of the Nursing degree, highlighted the start of a new stage in the students' lives and emphasised the role of each one in building a better world: "Up until now you've been studying the world, now you're going to help transform it." The meeting was also attended by Ana Rita Gonçalves, representative of the Students' Association, who had the opportunity to share her experience and talk about the importance of an organisation like this one
At the end of this session, the students and their families were invited to gather in the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium to take part in a meeting between all the students from the different degrees at the Universidade Católica in Porto, where scholarships and merit awards were also presented. This welcoming session included a speech by Isabel Braga da Cruz, pro-rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, who congratulated all the new students on entering higher education and for choosing the Universidade Católica Portuguesa: "You are beginning the best years of your lives. We want the mission of the Universidade Católica to inspire you."
