Note of condolence for Professor Ana Maria Jorge

The President of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa expresses her deep sorrow at the passing of Professor Ana Maria Jorge, Director of the Faculty of Theology between 2018 and 2025.

Graduated in History from the Faculty of Arts of the Universidade de Lisboa in 1986, she has been a lecturer in Church History at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa since 1995. She was a member of the Faculty of Theology's Board of Directors from 1996 to 2004 and from 2011 to 2017, and was appointed Dean of the Faculty in 2018.

The University expresses its immense gratitude for the dedication of Professor Ana Maria Jorge, marked by a remarkable spirit of service and dedication to the Faculty of Theology and the entire University. May God welcome her into His light.

In memory of Professor Ana Jorge, on December 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the Patriarch and Grand Chancellor of the Universidade Católica, D. Rui Valério, will preside over the Seventh Day Mass at 11:30 a.m. at the Sé Patriacal.

On December 9, at 1:00 p.m., Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel of Santa Maria, Sé da Sabedoria, on the Universidade Católica campus in Lisbon.

The Christmas Mass, which will be celebrated on December 10 at 12:00 p.m. in the Cardinal Medeiros Auditorium, will be in memory of Professor Ana Maria Jorge.

In a statement, His Eminence, D. Rui Valério, highlighted her ‘rigorous thinking, her capacity for dialogue and her habitual spirit of communion, which left a deep mark on all those who knew her.’

The following words were spoken by the President of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa during the Mass celebrated, on December 9, in memory of Professor Ana Maria Jorge. The Mass was presided over by Father Luís Miguel Figueiredo Rodrigues (Director of the Faculty of Theology) in the Chapel of Santa Maria, Sé da Sabedoria at the University.
