For the native forest: volunteers from CAtólica SOlidária contribute to the FUTURO project

Students from the Portuguese Catholic University of Porto Regional Centre, who are part of the Catholic University of Porto (CASO), volunteered in the FUTURO project, which promotes native forests and active citizen participation and is co-led by Católica Porto and the Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP).

Contributing to regional biodiversity, the students totalled 86 hours of service over the 2022/23 academic year. CASO volunteers, who are part of the Ser + Ambiente volunteer area, from different courses (Management, Law and Nursing), dedicated their free time to promoting forest biodiversity in our region, as part of the group of volunteers from FUTURO's Nursery of Autochthonous Trees and Shrubs.

FUTURO hopes to "continue to count on the adherence, commitment and motivation of the CASO community for the project's mission".

The volunteers carried out various practical tasks, such as transplanting, potting and weeding, and got to know, up close, species characteristic of native forests, such as the strawberry tree and the lodeon. The group also participated in the work of the nursery of the Landscape Recovery Centre of Vale do Leça, where they took care of young native trees. During the actions, they spent pleasant, enriching moments and were able to meet and share stories with other FUTURO volunteers.
