Medal of Merit of Madeira awarded to José Tolentino de Mendonça
The Medal of Merit of the Autonomous Region of Madeira is a distinction awarded by the regional parliament to “individual or collective entities, public or private, national or foreign, living or posthumously, that have provided significant services to the region or that for any reason the region deems it should distinguish” and this year will be awarded to Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça at a formal sitting on December 23.
The award of the Medal of Merit by the Madeiran Parliament is a “recognition of the life course of the cardinal, poet and professor, born in December 1965, in Machico”, highlights the Parliament.
