Instituto de Estudos Políticos organized online edition of the "Summit of Democracies"
The Open Day of the Instituto de Estudos Políticos, of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, is, since 2013, organized on the format of a simulation of a "Summit of Democracies" managed by the Director of the event, Professor Mónica Dias. This is an initiative that invites high school students to debate current world politics and democracy. In 2020, due to the impossibility of gathering students, professors and guests in person, the Open Day was held in an online format.
The 2020 Summit of Democracies was attended by 10 teams of High Schools from North to South of the country (from Moimenta da Beira to Porto, passing through the regions of Coimbra, Lisbon, Cascais, Milfontes to Faro), as well as several students and teachers of Schools without a team, and at the Opening Session there were 103 participants.
The Summit also featured the presentation of the Coordinator of the Degree in Political Science and International Relations, Professor Orlando Samões, during the Open Classroom.
The online session also included the award of the EUROSCOLA Prize by Pedro Valente da Silva, Head of the European Parliament Office in Portugal. The prize consists of a trip from the selected school to Strasbourg to participate in the Euroscola Sessions that take place in the following school year.
