FMD Alumni Develop Innovative Educational Game for Metabolic Models
Tomás Carreiró Carvalho Silva e Sá, an alumnus of the Faculty of Dental Medicine (FMD) of the Viseu Regional Centre of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, recently completed his master's thesis in Bioinformatics, developing an innovative educational game for learning genome-scale metabolic models (GEMs).
This talented student's academic career began at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa at the Viseu Regional Centre, where he graduated in Biomedical Sciences in 2021. During this time, he acquired solid knowledge in various areas of biology with a focus on health, such as cell and molecular biology, genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics.
Motivated by his interest in omics and programming, the student took a master's degree in Bioinformatics at the University of Minho, where he deepened his knowledge of genomics and developed advanced programming skills.
In his master's work, supervised by Professors Óscar Dias and Vítor Pereira, Tomás applied his knowledge of systems biology and genomics to create a tool that facilitates the use of GEMs and supports their learning.
