First edition of Católica TIPS sets the stage to new perspectives on Pedagogical Innovation in Higher Education
Under the theme “pedagogical relationship and innovation,” the 4th and final session of the 1st edition of Católica TIPS – Teaching Innovation Partnerships took place. This initiative, promoted by the Católica Learning Innovation Lab (CLIL), has brought together faculty and researchers from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa around key themes of pedagogical innovation in Higher Education.
The final session unfolded in an atmosphere of shared reflection and cross-disciplinary inspiration, consolidating the collaborative spirit that has characterized the entire edition. As in previous gatherings, the discussion began with the reading of literary excerpts, which served as a starting point for a rich and engaging dialogue on the pedagogical relationship and the construction of trust in the university context.
During the session, participants were invited to reflect on different dimensions of the pedagogical relationship, such as the importance of building trust with students, the need to believe in their potential, the creation of space for their co-agency in the classroom, the intentional presence of the teacher, the promotion of a sense of belonging, and the definition of indicators to support continuous reflection on the type of relationship being cultivated throughout the academic journey.
Pedro Lima, faculty member at Católica Porto Business School, highlighted that his participation in Católica TIPS was “a balance between restlessness and tranquility.” He emphasized that the restlessness came from realizing that “the changes currently shaking the status quo of our teaching model cut across all areas of knowledge and all academic contexts — representing not just a challenge, but a true paradigm shift.” At the same time, he noted the tranquility brought by the experience of sharing: “the experience allowed me to step out of my ‘comfort zone’ and share experiences, tools, and methodologies in a structured, yet relaxed and dynamic environment of debate and reflection.” For Pedro Lima, it was “a space where I was able to build bridges and relationships that helped me grow as a professional and, more deeply, as a member of a community.” He concluded with a question that encapsulates the spirit of the initiative: “Is there anything more important than that?”
Thus, Católica TIPS closes its first edition on an extremely positive note, with the active participation of faculty and researchers from various academic units of Católica. The sessions planted seeds for future editions and established themselves as privileged spaces for the emergence of new Teaching Innovation Partnerships, reinforcing Universidade Católica Portuguesa’s commitment to person-centered learning, innovation, and the humanization of education.
