FCH student nominated for European Commission journalism prize
Miguel Cunha dos Santos, 3rd year student at Faculdade de Ciências Humanas's (FCH) Degree in Social and Cultural Communication, has been nominated for the "Fernando de Sousa" journalism award from the European Commission. A report of his authorship, published in the information website Espalha-Factos, reached a place among the six best journalistic works in the "student" category.
Entitled "Lux Film Prize: is politics that disconnected from cinema?", the FCH student's journalistic piece was held in Strasbourg, at the European Parliament, in November 2019. It follows the 2019 LUX Film Prize and reflects on the connection between politics and European cinema.
Miguel Cunha dos Santos considers that "as a student of Media and Cultural Communication at the FCH, it is a great honor to be nominated for a European Commission award and to represent the academic community, which has contributed so much to my training as a person and as a professional. It was at the FCH that I realized the power of speech and writing, but also the importance of education and culture. I am sure that I could not have chosen a better school to graduate and open professional doors for me. More than an individual appointment, it is an appointment to the talent and future of all my colleagues and faculty, which will be forever marked in my path".
Created in 2016 by the European Commission's Representation in Portugal, this award "aims to honour and perpetuate the professionalism" of journalist Fernando de Sousa, "highlighting his contribution, in a remarkable way, to the clarification of European affairs and the promotion of knowledge of the institutions and policies of the European Union, in Portugal".
