The Faculty of Law is "your home": welcoming new undergraduate students 23/24
The new students at the Faculty of Law - Porto School of Universidade Católica have arrived.
The start of the new academic year was marked by a Welcome Week full of enthusiasm and energy.
"We are delighted to welcome you to our home, which will also be your home for the next four years," said Manuel Fontaine, the Faculty's Director. Visits to the campus, a showcase of student centres and many inaugural classes were some of the moments that filled the first days at the Universidade Católica for more than 200 students.
"Our mission isn't just to train lawyers, it's also to train citizens," said Marta Portocarrero, deputy dean of the Faculty of Law - Porto School, at the welcoming session for new law students, which took place on 7 September. The law degree "allows you to grow in many other dimensions", she added.
For Ana Teresa Ribeiro, coordinator of the Law degree, "innovation is brought by our course through personalised teaching". "The Law programme offers good prospects for the future," she added.
On the same day, there was also a welcome session for the students of the Double Degree in Law and Management, a joint programme between the Faculty of Law and Católica Porto Business School. During the session, former students had the opportunity to share their testimonies. Catarina Ferreira, a double degree student, said: "Congratulations on getting into the best university in the country." Nuno Brochado de Agarez, also an alumnus of this programme, shared that "doing the Double Degree is a privilege. They've chosen a great place."
Ana Teresa Ribeiro also said that the Double Degree is "the maximum exponent of interdisciplinarity, which puts you in a privileged position in the labour market."
At the end of these sessions, the students and their families were invited to gather in the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium to take part in a meeting between all the students from the different degrees at the Universidade Católica, where scholarships and merit awards were also presented. This welcoming session featured a speech by Isabel Braga da Cruz, Pro-Rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, who congratulated all the new students on entering higher education and for choosing Católica: "You are beginning the best years of your lives. We want the mission of the Universidade Católica to inspire you."
From 11 to 14 September, the students of the Faculty of Law - Porto School, had the opportunity to take part in different social events, such as volunteering at the Food Bank, meetings with professionals, among others. The aim of these activities is to promote the welcome and integration of all the new students at the Faculty, who are now embarking on a challenging university journey with their sights set on the future.
