Experience of Syrian students from the Faculdade de Medicina Dentária highlighted in RTP documentary
Sham and Amirah came to Portugal to study in 2018. The two young Syrian women are studying at the Faculdade de Medicina Dentária of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Viseu, through the Global Platform for Syrian Students.
Attending the Integrated Master's Degree in Dental Medicine, Amirah and Sham Aldagistani share their testimony in the documentary "No Chão Que Eles Pisam", which portrays the experience of young refugees from Syria and Afghanistan in Portugal. The documentary, by Cândida Pinto and Daniel Mota, will be broadcast on RTP1, in two parts, on December 20 and 21.
"The ground disappeared from under their feet when they arrived at the university. From the sky fell threats that broke the buildings, the schools, the families, the friends, the lives. They sought a future far from their conflict-torn country of origin," reads the synopsis of the documentary.
The documentary shows the young women's journey through university, their contact with a new culture, and the process of integration.
