Ethics and reputation under discussion at the first session of “Conversations with Global Thought Leaders”
On 24 September, Universidade Católica launched the “Conversations with Global Thought Leaders” series, as part of the celebrations marking its 60th anniversary. The first session, entitled “Ethics and Global Reputation”, brought together Sir Alan Parker, Founder and Chairman of Brunswick, and Gonçalo Almeida Ribeiro, Professor at the Lisbon School of the Faculty of Law at Universidade Católica.
During the session, Gonçalo Almeida Ribeiro and Sir Alan Parker discussed the relationship between ethics and reputation in an increasingly interconnected world.
The conversation explored different aspects of organisational reputation and the importance of understanding people’s and society’s expectations. Sir Alan Parker highlighted the importance of looking beyond the image an organisation seeks to project and understanding how it is perceived by others. Crisis situations and the way organisations respond in difficult circumstances were also discussed, as they can reveal an organisation’s values and culture.
The conversation also addressed the challenges posed by the speed of information and social media, as well as the need to consider different perspectives and understand the complexity of issues before forming an opinion.
The session concluded with an opportunity for the audience to put questions to Sir Alan Parker, furthering the discussion.
The session marked the beginning of a series of conversations with figures with distinguished national and international careers. The initiative aims to create spaces for dialogue and reflection on issues of relevance to contemporary society, bringing the academic community closer to different perspectives and experiences.
