Escola das Artes opens a new exhibition by Letícia Ramos on Exploring the paths of the imagination: "Campo Magnético" (Magnetic Field)

The Exhibition Hall of the School of Arts of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa is hosting the exhibition "Campo Magnético" (Magnetic Field) by Brazilian artist Letícia Ramos. In this exhibition, the artist-scientist delves into the depths of the relationship between geological and climatic phenomena and the impact they can have on the imagination. Further information.

"In this exhibition, we are taken on an extraordinary journey where the boundaries that separate science, art and imagination no longer exist. Letícia Ramos' work is a celebration of human creativity and demonstrates the role that art plays in understanding the world around us," says Nuno Crespo, curator of this exhibition and director of the School of Arts at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

Letícia Ramos builds visual landscapes that travel between the past and the future. In her rigorous investigation of the analogue photographic medium, she uses sculpture, scale models and special effects techniques to create imaginary landscapes, narratives and fabrications that take shape in photographs, film and installations.

A scientist artist who researches the impact that geological and climatic phenomena can have on the imagination. Her work is included in collections such as the Botín Foundation, the New Museum of Monaco, the Kadist Collection, Itaú Cultural, the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art, the Moreira Salles Institute and the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo.

The artist uses natural elements and optical effects as metaphors or symbols to represent concepts related to politics, science and imagination. The elements of nature are used as transmitters of ideas where there is an overlap between the past and the future.  The temporal overlap is represented in different ways, providing a reflection on the continuity of history.

Exploring the paths of the imagination: "Campo Magnético" opened on 2 May at the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium, with a performance by Letícia Ramos Films and the Original Soundtrack and Foley Live, starring Rossano Snel, with the participation of the Supernova Ensemble. During the opening, visitors had the chance to enjoy a DJ set in collaboration with the School of Arts Students' Association, in the Pátio das Artes.

The exhibition "Campo Magnético" is the fourth exhibition in the cycle "Não foi Cabral: revendo silêncios e omissões" (It wasn't Cabral: revisiting silences and omissions), a co-curated programme between Lilia Schwarcz and Nuno Crespo, which includes an agenda of concerts, conferences, exhibitions and performances, taking place between 16 February and 24 May. The cycle is organised by the Escola das Artes, in partnership with the University of São Paulo (Brazil) and Princeton University (USA).
