From Classmates to Best Friends: Catarina and Matilde
They say you make friends for life at university. This is certainly true for Catarina and Matilde.
“We met at university and, right from the start, we formed a very special bond,” says Catarina Matias. She is 20 years old and is studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa alongside her friend Matilde Isabel Narciso dos Santos, aged 19.
It was friendship at first sight. “Over time, we started spending more and more time together, both in and out of class, and our friendship grew very naturally,” shares Catarina.
“Nowadays, I consider her one of my best friends,” she confesses.
Any opportunity is a good excuse for them to get together. “Our favourite thing to do is go for a walk, browse the shops or simply chat for hours.” But university is their main meeting point.
On this International Friendship Day, we celebrate the friendships that begin at university and extend beyond the walls of Católica.
Because being a friend means offering support: “At university, we also support each other a lot: we study together, we help each other when one of us is struggling with a subject, we motivate each other and we’re always there to celebrate achievements or get through the toughest times.”
Happy International Friendship Day. See the video
