Cineclube EA returns to UCP's School of Arts

At this historic moment of redefinition of models and practices, the debate on the ways of watching cinema and the relevance of cinema experience has become inescapable - especially when many still assess whether the risk is justifiable.

For the School of Arts (EA) of the Portuguese Catholic University and taking into account its context, it is even considered a pedagogical necessity, central to the teaching of cinema.

Having been prevented from developing its face-to-face activities since 4 March 2020, the School of Arts has had the chance to rethink its functioning, from its privileged programming and its organisation, graphic presentation and communication. They tried out online tools during the first months of confinement, which, although with satisfactory results, only made them more anxious for a possible return to the cinema.

For this new year, with a renewed team and the institutional support of the School of Arts, the Cineclub team has prepared a semester of programming that will combine the usual authorial model of film selection, with other special moments with guests - in person - of recent prominence in the national film panorama. They will also have a new graphic identity, and a bet to deepen the debate (with guests, room sheets and presence on EA's website).

From February the EA Film Society will be back at the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium, with a first cycle called "We, the Beast", where films by Alfred Hitchcock, Werner Herzog, Jean Cocteau and Georges Franju will be shown.

This is how they announce the return of the Cineclub's presence activities, and launch the invitation to the community to visit them, always with the promise of quality and relevance of their programming, the unique conditions of the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium, and more relevant today, the safety of the spectators.

The return is scheduled for February 23rd, at 18h30.
