CEPCEP leads European research network for gender equality

The research centre CEPCEP will lead a network of universities and other institutions from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Poland and Latvia in a project to develop a new strategy to achieve the goals of the European Union (EU) in gender equality.

Although over the years in most countries of the European Union there has been an increase in the representation of women in political positions, as well as in the administration of companies and other entities, gender equality as called for in the EU document 'Gender Equality 2020-2025' has not been achieved.

The project now approved in the call for proposals of the EU's 'Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values' (CERV) programme will be developed over two years and is worth around half a million euros. Among other aspects, it will analyse European legislation and ongoing programmes in Member States on equal representation of women and men, as well as good practices of business or other organisations, both public and private.

This project aims to influence the design, development and monitoring of European, national, regional and local policies to promote gender equality. Proposals will be made for the equal representation of women and men in political decision-making, promoting in particular equal representation in the 2024 elections to the European Parliament.

CEPCEP, led by Professor Fernando Ilharco, will coordinate the network of partners, consisting of Universita degli Studi di Siena, Italy; Latvijas Universitat, Latvia; Fundacion Ronsell, Spain; Fundacja Gaudete, Poland; and the Portuguese Psychologists Association, Portugal.
