Católica welcomes Paul Tighe and Michael O’Flaherty for a discussion on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights
On 11 November, the Universidade Católica Portuguesa is hosting a discussion entitled “Human Rights and Artificial Intelligence” at its headquarters in Lisbon. The event will feature H. E. Msgr. Paul Desmond Tighe, Secretary of the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See, who has played a significant role in the debate on the ethical challenges of artificial intelligence, and Michael O’Flaherty, Commissioner for Human Rights at the Council of Europe.
This initiative forms part of “Conversations with Global Thought Leaders”, a series of regular meetings organised as part of the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, which will bring leading figures in international thought and action to Lisbon to discuss key issues of our time.
The dialogue between H. E. Msgr. Paul Desmond Tighe and Michael O’Flaherty will offer two particularly relevant perspectives on the relationship between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and human rights and human dignity. H. E. Msgr. Paul Desmond Tighe has been closely following the development of AI and the Holy See’s dialogue with key players in the technology sector, including companies and leaders based in Silicon Valley. Commissioner Michael O’Flaherty, for his part, is widely recognised for his work in promoting and protecting human rights at European and international level.
The talk will take place in the Cardeal Medeiros Auditorium from 5.30 pm. To attend, you will need to register via this link by 6 November. Registrations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Over the coming months, new initiatives as part of the programme commemorating the university’s 60th anniversary will be announced, along with the speakers, topics and dates for the upcoming “Conversations with Global Thought Leaders”, reinforcing the Católica University’s role as a space for encounter, reflection and dialogue on the issues that are transforming the world.
Photographs will be taken during the session and may be used in communication or promotional materials for the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
