Católica took part in the FUCE General Assembly 2024
Isabel Capeloa Gil, President of UCP and President of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (FIUC), and José Manuel Pereira de Almeida, Vice-Rector of UCP, represented Católica at the annual meeting of the Catholic Universities of Europe (FUCE) and Lebanon, which was held at the Universidad Loyola de Andalucia in Seville from June 5 to 7.
The FUCE General Assembly, meeting to reflect on the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence in almost all areas of life, marked the event with a talk open to the public on the theme "What is the future of Catholic Universities in the age of AI?", presented by Isabel Capeloa Gil, together with Msgr. Giovanni Cesare Pagazzi, Secretary of the Dicastery for Culture and Education.
The second day of the General Assembly was dedicated to reflecting on the opportunities and challenges that AI represents for the future of education, in a session with the motto: "Artificial Intelligence: The end of education or the beginning of a new era".
The FUCE General Assembly ended on June 7 with a session dedicated to the news of the International Federation of Catholic Universities on the occasion of its centenary (1924-2024).
This annual meeting not only promoted reflection on the role of Catholic universities in an AI age, but also emphasized the need to ensure transparency, control, accountability and regulation in the use of these new technologies. The Assembly underlined the opportunity for Catholic universities to lead the necessary pedagogical adaptation and innovation, exploiting the potential of AI to improve students' skills and learning objectives.
The active participation of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in this event reaffirms its commitment to educational innovation and the promotion of an integral education, capable of responding to the challenges and opportunities of the digital age with responsibility and ethics.
