Católica students win Gulbenkian New Talents Scholarship 2023

Four students from Universidade Católica Portuguesa have been awarded the Gulbenkian New Talents Scholarship. Marta Cansado, Xavier Rendeiro Silva Cunha, Camila Monteiro and Guilherme da Costa Pimenta were recognised as exceptional students by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and will have the opportunity to take part in an immersive talent enrichment programme.

"I knew that this was a very selective programme, so receiving the news that I had been selected was a surprise that made me very happy," confesses Marta Cansado, a third-year law student at the Lisbon School of the Faculty of Law.

The student, who also holds a Merit Scholarship from Católica, applied for the Gulbenkian Scholarship "out of curiosity to research some of the most emerging topics in Law, related to Data Protection and Artificial Intelligence."

Xavier Rendeiro Silva Cunha, a student of the Double Degree in Law and Management at the Porto School of the Faculty of Law and Católica Porto Business School, hopes to "enrich his academic, intellectual and personal career by getting a first contact with the world of research, taking advantage of the international opportunities that the Scholarship provides".

With research as a priority, Camila Monteiro, who is completing her 3rd year in Management at the Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics, sees this scholarship as "an opportunity to enter the world of research and pursue a more academic education in Economics".

Also studying Management, but in his 2nd year at Católica Porto Business School, Guilherme da Costa Pimenta is "extremely proud" of this distinction. "It's a great recognition of all the effort and dedication that has gone into my academic career, and it's the ideal stimulus to keep me motivated."

The Gulbenkian New Talent Grant can reach €3,500 and aims to stimulate research initiation through support for further studies, advanced training courses, participation in conferences and summer schools, internships, language courses, the purchase of books and laboratory equipment, among others. It also includes an integrated programme involving tutors, scientific committees, scientific retreats and workshops.
