Público Newspaper organizes the conference "The risk society: how to manage the insecurities of the future?", within the scope of the PSuperior initiatives, on June 6, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the headquarters of Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

The initiative hosted by UCP will take place in a round-table format, and will be moderated by Sónia Sapage, Executive Editor of Público, and will have the participation of Isabel Capeloa Gil, President of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Joana Silva, Professor at the Católica Lisbon School of Business & EconomicsPedro Isidoro Silva, student at the Faculty of Human Sciences, André Santos Pereira, sociologist, and Jéssica Domingues, cyber security specialist.

"The future already seemed to us increasingly uncertain, proper of the catastrophism announced in the "risk society" theorized by the German sociologist Ulrich Beck, when the war reached Europe. Geopolitical insecurity thus joined an already evident climate crisis, volatile employment fragilities, probable and improbable pandemics. And other unexpected problems have emerged on the horizon: from food shortages to rising prices to the energy crisis. There are increasing reasons to include insecurity in crucial discussions on the world." It is about this context of an uncertain future that the various speakers will debate.

The conference will take place in a hybrid model, allowing to reach the academic community in person, invited to be in the room, and all internet users who follow Público, via streaming.
