Católica holds cycle of workshops at CASA - Homeless Support Centre
Between 18 March and 22 April, the beneficiaries and staff of CASA - Centro de Apoio ao Sem-Abrigo (Homeless Support Centre) will have the opportunity to attend workshops promoted by Universidade Católica's volunteers. The first workshop, on the subject of "Food education", was given by Filipa Portugal Bentes, a nutritionist, Master's student in Communication Sciences and volunteer at Projeto VIDA - Volunteering at Católica, who emphasised "the difference" that "volunteering at UCP makes to people's lives."
"As well as being very welcomed, the feedback from the workshop was really positive. The main aim of the workshop was to demystify healthy eating, making participants realise how they can adopt a healthy diet at a low cost. Waste and food safety were also topics covered during the workshop. Through this workshop, the participants felt more empowered to plan, buy, cook and store food," said Filipa Portugal Bentes.
CASA's Technical Director, Carlota Silva, considered the workshop "very useful" and opened the door to the possibility of "continuing" training in this area of food education.
On 27 March, Rita Paiva e Pona, coordinator of the Social Responsibility Office and advisor to the Rector's Office for Social Responsibility, will give a workshop on "Personal Development" and on 15 and 22 April, António Borges, coordinator of the "Capacitar para Salvar Project" at the Lisbon School of Nursing (FCSE), will give a workshop on "Basic Life Support".
