Católica alumni awarded Fulbright scholarships for 2026/2027

Three alumni of Universidade Católica Portuguesa have been awarded Fulbright scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year, a distinction that will enable them to carry out research projects and pursue further studies in the United States of America.

Among those selected is Francisco Garcia, an alumnus of the Institute for Political Studies, where he completed a Master’s degree in Political Science; he has been awarded a Fulbright PhD scholarship, with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). At the University of Notre Dame, he will begin a PhD in Political Science, focusing his research on political theory and the history of moral and political thought. His project analyses the evolution of the concept of political virtue, from antiquity to modern philosophy.

Cristina Filipe, an alumna of the School of Arts and a researcher at the Centre for Research in Science and Technology in the Arts (CITAR), has been awarded the Fulbright Fellowship for Teachers and Researchers with a PhD, with the support of Camões I.P. During the fellowship period, she will carry out research at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York. The project focuses on contemporary jewellery, curatorial practices and archival studies, building on the academic work she is carrying out at CITAR.

Francisco Rodrigues, an alumnus of the School of Biotechnology, has been selected for the Fulbright Research Fellowship, with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). His project will be carried out at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine, part of Wake Forest University, in the United States.

Established in 1946, the Fulbright Programme supports study, research and teaching projects between Portugal and the United States, and is one of the main instruments of academic cooperation between the two countries. Since its inception, it has contributed to the advanced training of students, researchers and academics, and to the development of partnerships between higher education institutions and research centres.
