Beginning of the new phase of the Institute of Health Sciences
"She is the right woman, at the right time for the development of the Institute of Health Sciences", was how the Rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Isabel Capeloa Gil characterized the newly appointed director of the ICS, Ana Margarida Mineiro, to whom she addressed her congratulations for her new duties.
At the swearing-in ceremony of the Institute's new board, which took place today in Lisbon, the Rector said that this "is an important day, because it marks the beginning of a new phase of the ICS, within the vision projected for the future of the Institute."
Isabel Capeloa Gil also remembered the "important work started in 2004 by Alexandre Castro Caldas", as Director of ICS, who "managed to change the paradigm of this project, born in the University, with the vision of creating the UCP Faculty of Medicine, but which ended up being much more than that".
"The ICS was an incubator for faculties in the health area," the Rector pointed out, giving the examples of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dental Medicine, adding that "life is made of changes and we are with great anticipation for this new phase of the Institute, always with ambition, realism and vision for success."
The Director of the ICS, Ana Mineiro, thanked "the trust and the challenge" that was launched, expressing the intention to "improve the valuable heritage of Professor Castro Caldas, who was also guided by the courage to assume and gather within the Institute multiple, transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge in many different areas, from nursing, cognition, the language of neuroscience, palliative care and education".
"I recognize the importance of creating bridges and meeting points inside and outside the University, in an Institute that has in its institutional culture, multiple domains of knowledge of the life sciences, aligned with the ideals of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa," concluded the ICS Director.
In this ceremony the remaining members of the Institute's Board also took office: Paulo Jorge Pereira Alves, Deputy Director and the members Amélia Simões Figueiredo, Filipa Correia Ribeiro, Joana Rato, João Neves Amado and Manuel Vila Capelas.
Paulo Jorge Pereira Alves was also sworn in as Director of the Porto School of Nursing, and Alexandre de Lemos Castro Caldas took office as Coordinator of the National Council for Health Sciences.
