Artist Talk with MC Carol is featured in Brazilian newspaper O Globo
The presence of Brazilian funk singer MC Carol at the School of Arts (EA) of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa was highlighted in a report published in the Brazilian newspaper O Globo.
"Funk carioca dominates Portugal, and MC Carol is even invited to give a lecture at university: 'Her voice carries argumentation,' says professor" is the title of the report that highlights the presence of the funk singer at EA's Artist Talk on November 22. MC Carol was joined by artists Farofa and DJ Dorly, in a session that brought together 120 people.
In addressing the growth of funk in Portugal, the report mentions the interest in understanding the musical genre in depth. "And the Portuguese don't just want to dance, they need to understand the structure behind the democratic bias of funk, which crossed the Atlantic Ocean to confuse, as Chacrinha used to say," emphasises the newspaper.
According to the report, the analysis of funk as a phenomenon gained philosophical status at the event held at the Escola das Artes. O Globo newspaper reproduces an excerpt from an analysis of MC Carol's work by EA professor Diogo Tudela: "The pressure from which the voice of MC Carol springs carries not only discourse, but discursive mode and argumentation whose presence is pivotal in any institution that aspires to universal status".
Based in the city of Rio de Janeiro since 1925, the newspaper O Globo is among the three newspapers with the largest circulation in Brazil.
