Alberto Castro distinguished with merit medal from the city of Porto

Alberto Castro, economist, professor at the Católica Porto Business School (of which he was the first dean) and, currently, Student Ombudsman at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, was awarded the municipal merit medal of the city of Porto. The event took place at Casa do Roseiral, on July 9th, in which the mayor of Porto awarded municipal medals to 41 individual personalities (five awarded posthumously), to four institutions and to a municipal worker.

With the awarding of municipal medals, “we are recognizing those who dignified the city with their human quality, intellectual dimension, civic activity and professional competence,” said Rui Moreira, mayor of Porto, during the ceremony. “With this distinction, we hope to give due public emphasis and pass on your inspiring example to new generations,” he concluded.

In almost five decades of professional activity, Alberto Castro has divided his time between academia and the business world, always seeking a close connection with the city of Porto. “It's an honor to see that the work I've been doing is publicly recognized, although that's not what moves me,” he states. At the same time, representing the University, or in a personal capacity, he has been collaborating in several civil society organizations, from the Portuguese Business Association to the Commercial Association of Porto, from the Transport and Communications Museum to the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra, including the Portuguese Red Cross or the Economic Council of the Diocese.
