Workshop with Berta Paz: Service-Learning Foundations

Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in cooperation with Transform4Europe, organizes the Service-Learning Workshop "Service-Learning Foundations: Understanding the Pedagogy and How to Begin Implementing It" with specialist Berta Paz, on January 30th, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Porto Campus, (Room EC010) and Online.

Designed to train professors from the Alliance's partner universities in the implementation of the Service-Learning methodology, this introductory workshop focuses on the essential foundations of Service-Learning for higher education.

Participants explore the definition, origins, and pedagogical principles of Service-Learning, distinguishing it from volunteering and other experiential methodologies.

The programme includes core components of Service-Learning projects, such as reciprocity, community engagement, reflection, and social impact.

The hybrid session will also introduce participants to the the full Service-Learning cycle— needs assessment, partnership building, project design, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination— supported by real examples from European universities.

Participants will be challenged to identify opportunities within their own courses, engage in collaborative activities, and draft an initial proposal for implementation.
