Friday, October 16, 2020 - 17:30 - Friday, January 15, 2021 - 19:00

Sala de Exposições | Escola das Artes | UCP | Centro Regional do Porto

Vasco Araújo was in artistic residence at Escola das Artes during the school year 2019-20, period during which he produced the exhibition/film Pathosformel.

Pathosformel is a new work by Vasco Araújo, in video format, and it is an interdisciplinary work, both in form and content, having as premise the deconstruction and reconstruction of behavioral codes that reflect on the subject's relationship with the outside world.

The performance of the body, the voice, gestures, language and established social forms are rethought through formal and conceptual devices associated with opera, palace etiquette, Greco/Roman mythology, defining a proper space, aesthetic and discursive. Broadly based on Literature, Philosophy, as well as Classical Studies, the artist intends to critically expose: the gaze of the Other; the potential ambiguity of interpersonal relationships; the fragility of systems taken for granted; tragedy versus melodrama; the construction of an idea of reality; the relationships between identity and sexuality; the virtue and morality of duty; the geography of affections and the drives of desire and passion.
