The Foreigner – the 2025 programme of Concerts, Talks, Exhibitions and Performances by the School of Arts of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and the Research Centre for Science and Technology of the Arts (CITAR), presents the talk Critical Metaphor of “The Garden”, with Vasco Araújo, on May 8, at 6:30 PM.
Synopsis:
This session between Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida and Vasco Araújo, focused on the analysis of the video “O Jardim” (2005), aims to contextualise, interpret, and problematise the colonial legacy of Lisbon’s tropical garden and other public and private structures that persist in Portugal today with little to no historical revision.
Biography:
Vasco Araújo is an established name in the contemporary art scene. Winner of the EDP New Artists Award in 2003, he has since exhibited both individually and collectively at renowned venues and events such as the Serralves Museum, Gasworks, Jeu de Paume, Venice Biennale, and Palais de Tokyo. His work ranges from painting to sculpture, photography to film, dealing with themes such as memory, identity, and theatricality through immersive transmedia installations. His work is part of several public and private collections.
