Monday, November 04, 2024 - 11:30
Edifício Américo Amorim | UCP | Centro Regional do Porto
The functioning of an independent EU Court is one of the specifics which distinguish the EU from other international organizations. Effective juridical protection is ensured by two courts, the General Court of Justice and the EU Court of Justice.
The General Court may be characterized as an administrative court checking the legality of EU institutions, whereas the EU Court of Justice act as a forum of appeal and also a kind of Constitutional Court through the adoption of preliminary rulings at the request of national courts.
The recent amendments extending the jurisdiction of the General Court will also be addressed.
