Católica Doctoral School is promoting the course ‘Analysing Qualitative Data: Introduction and Practice’, led by Carlos Barros, with the aim of equipping participants with fundamental skills in qualitative research, with practical application using NVivo software.

This face-to-face course combines a solid theoretical introduction with a practical approach centred on real examples and working with participants' own data. Throughout the sessions, there will be an introduction to the fundamentals of qualitative methods, addressing their relevance to understanding human and social phenomena, as well as their applicability in various areas of knowledge.

The main stages of qualitative research will be explored, from defining the object of study to presenting the results, building collection tools (such as interviews, focus groups and audiovisual recordings), preparing and organising the data, and basic analysis operations using NVivo software.

The course will also include the creation of categories and codes, the creation of memes, the development of mind maps and meaning networks, and writing strategies for presenting qualitative results in a clear and reasoned manner.

Face-to-face, the course will allow for progressive learning, with technical support and guided discussion on the participants' projects.

Learning Goals:

  • Recognise the relevance of qualitative analysis in human and social contexts;
  • Structure research projects based on qualitative methods;
  • Apply digital tools to analyse textual and multimedia data;
