Open Class with Nuno Crespo and Dalton Paula | School of Arts

As part of the exhibition "Não foi Cabral: revendo silêncios e omissões", the School of Arts of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa is organising an Open Class with Nuno Crespo and Dalton Paula on 7 March at 18:30.

The exhibition will run from 16 February to 24 May and is curated by Lilian Schwarcz and Nuno Crespo.

The annual programme of conferences, concerts, exhibitions and performances returns to the School of Arts in spring 2024. Each year, this programme is aligned around an emerging theme in our contemporary world. If, in previous years, our attention has been focused on how it is possible to learn to "tread softly on the earth" (Ailton Krenak), on the relationship between "Art / Thought / Sound" or on exploring the multiplicity of intersections and contaminations between "Art and Science", in 2024 it will be reflection on the omissions and silences that histories maintain that will take centre stage.

Dalton Paula

Com formação em Artes Visuais pela Universidade Federal de Goiás, Dalton Paula realizou inúmeras exposições individuas e colectivas, com destaque para “Enciclopédia Negra” (2021), na Pinacoteca de São Paulo; “Change Is Modern, Fall Reveal”, Museu de Arte Moderna de Nova York (MoMA), EUA; “Histórias Afro-Atlânticas”, Museum of Fine Arts (MFAH), Houston, Texas, EUA; “Imagens que não se conformam”, Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), Rio de Janeiro, Brasil; “Composições para tempos insurgentes”, Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (MAM), Brasil (2021); “Dalton Paula: um sequestrador de Almas”, na Alexander and Bonin Gallery, em Nova York; “Against, Again: Art Under Attack in Brazil”, Anya and Andrew Shiva Gallery, Nova York, EUA (2020); no “36º Panorama da Arte Brasileira: Sertão”, no Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (MAM), “Dalton Paula: entre a prosa e a poesia”, Sé Galeria, São Paulo, SP, Brasil (2019); The Atlantic Triangle” (Instituto Goethe em Lagos/Nigéria, 2016);
Em 2018, foi selecionado para a Trienal “Songs for Sabotage” do New Museum em Nova York/EUA, tendo integrado a 11ª Bienal de Artes Visuais do Mercosul – “O Triângulo Atlântico”, em Porto Alegre/RS, e foi um dos artistas convidados da 32ª Bienal de São Paulo, em 2016.
