Open Class with Lilia Schwarcz | School of Arts

As part of the exhibition "Não foi Cabral: revendo silêncios e omissões", the School of Arts of Universidade Católica Portuguesa is organising an Open Class with Lilia Schwarcz on 16 February at 18:30.

The exhibition will run from 16 February to 24 May and is curated by Lilia Schwarcz and Nuno Crespo.

The annual programme of conferences, concerts, exhibitions and performances returns to the School of Arts in spring 2024. Each year, this programme is aligned around an emerging theme in our contemporary world. If in previous years the focus has been on how it is possible to learn to "tread softly on the earth" (Ailton Krenak), on the relationship between "Art / Thought / Sound" or on exploring the multiplicity of intersections and contaminations between "Art and Science", in 2024 it will be reflection on the omissions and silences that histories maintain that will take centre stage.

Lilia Schwarcz

Antropóloga, historiadora, professora titular no Departamento de Antropologia da Universidade de São Paulo e Global Scholar na Universidade de Princeton. Foi Visiting Professor em Oxford, Leiden, Brown e Columbia. Curadora convidada no Museu de Arte de São Paulo e colunista do jornal Nexo.
Obteve a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellow (2007) e recebeu a Comenda da Ordem do Mérito Científico Nacional (2010). É autora de uma vasta bibliografia, com obras como "Retrato em branco e negro" (1987, prêmio APCA), "O espetáculo das raças" (1993), "As barbas do imperador" (1998, prêmio Jabuti Livro do Ano), "O sol do Brasil" (2008, Prêmio Jabuti categoria biografia 2009), "Brasil: Uma biografia" (com Heloisa Murgel Starling, 2015) e "Lima Barreto: Triste visionário" (2017, prêmio Jabuti de Biografia).
